In most ophiolites the uhramafic section is harzburgitic. It is rarely composed of residual lherzolites, except for the local occurrence of impregnation lherzolites within harzburgitic massifs. Several characters (environmental formations, thickness. The lower parts of a high-porosity channel are harzburgite and lherzolite. The size and dimension of dunite channels depend on the amplitude of lateral porosity variations at the base of the melting column, whereas the depth of dunite channel initiation depends on the melt flux entering the channel from below.

It is now recognized that harzburgite and lherzolite may occur simultaneously within a given Structure and lithology of ophiolites A complete and intact ophiolite, like the Troodos complex, consists from the base upward, of tectonized peridotite, layered ultramafic and mafic cumulates, homogeneous gabbros, sheeted dikes and pillow lavas, commonly with interbedded radiolarian chert (e.g.. The Pozantı-Karsantı Ophiolite located in the middle Taurus has significant chromitite reserves in Turkey. The chromitite ore bodies belong to concordant and subconcordant form and are located within mantle harzburgite surrounded by bodies of dunite.
